On Dec. 11, 2014, an Allentown, PA owner of 2 pit bulls was sentenced to one to 23 months in Lehigh County Jail after her pit bulls mauled a 3rd victim. A 44 year old Allentown resident testified as to the 2/23/14 unprovoked pit bull attack. On 1/7/14, a Lackawanna County dog bite victim contacted Attorney Thomas J. Newell to obtain a 2nd opinion on her dog bite claim. She was bitten by a friend’s pit bull mix in the fall of 2010. The woman hired a large Scranton PA law firm that filed a lawsuit in the summer of 2011.  2-1/2 years later, little if any progress had been made on the case and the PA dog attack victim was greatly disappointed with the lack of personal service and inactivity by her lawyers.

Dauphin County Sheriff’s Office Serves Negligent Dog Owner

On December 24, 2013, the Dauphin County Sheriff’s Office served a Millersburg, PA dog owner with a 27 page Complaint filed by Attorney Newell 5 days earlier. The basis for the legal claims was a November 21, 2012 dog attack by the defendant’s 3 boxers on a Federal Express delivery person.  Attorney Newell’s document alleges that the victim is entitled to recover punitive damages vs. the defendant.

Husky Mix Mauled by Pit Bull in Washington PA

On 11/26/13, Attorney Thomas J. Newell provided a free consultation to a family whose husky mix was nearly mauled to death by a neighbor’s pit bull. The unleashed pit bull jumped a fence and nearly killed the family pet before another neighbor intervened. That Good Samaritan was bitten on the ankle. Veterinarian expenses are currently in excess of $13,000.00 and the pit bull attack victim is demanding full restitution from the defendant’s homeowners insurance company.

Newell received approval from an Adams County judge to settle a pit bull attack case for $300,000.00.  A little girl had been mauled by her neighbor’s pit bull and a piece of her nose had been bitten off.  When the homeowner’s insurance company wouldn’t pay its liability limit, Attorney Newell filed a lawsuit.  They paid the $300K maximum coverage amount with the approval of Judge Campbell.

On October 1, 2013, justice was served when a $75,000.00 settlement for a 4 year old dog attack victim was approved by a Chester County Court of Common Pleas judge.  The little girl was attacked by her aunt’s Labrador Retrievers.  The defendant’s homeowners insurance company failed to make a serious settlement offer, so Attorney Thomas J. Monroe County Rottweiler Owner Flouting the PA Dog Law?

On September 23, 2013, an East Stroudsburg PA rottweiler owner was seen walking her dog in public without a muzzle.  This negligent dog owner had been convicted on 10/4/12 of harboring a dangerous dog.  Her appeal to the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas was dismissed on 2/21/13.  Part of the legal obligations required of the rottweiler owner pursuant to the PA Dog Law is a mandatory muzzling any time the rottweiler is off its property.

Vicious Luzerne County Pit Bull Attacks Again

On 9/4/13, a middle aged couple was terrorized by a neighbor’s pit bull in Luzerne County.  This pit bull had allegedly bitten a child before and had mauled a small white dog earlier causing nearly $4,000.00 in vet bills.  On this date, the pit bull owner lost control of his vicious dog and it pursued and attacked a mixed breed dog.  Luzerne County Dog Warden, Jim Spencer, has been called in to investigate.

Harrisburg Dog Attack

An August 14, 2013 article in The Pocono Record described a recent pit bull attack in the Pocono Country Place development in Monroe County PA.  A 76 year old resident of Tobyhanna was walking down a street in the private community when 3 unrestrained pit bulls pursued and then attacked her.  The PA dog mauling victim was taken to Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

Bucks County Dog Warden Investigates Akita Attack

On August 13, 2013, Bucks County Dog Warden Verna North met with a man who had been recently attacked by an Akita at Lake Nockamixon Park.  The Akita was on a leash when it lunged at the PA dog bite victim.  The Akita was put on a 10 day quarantine as required by the PA Dog Law.  The victim was unaware of any prior vicious propensities exhibited by the Akita.

On June 29, 2013, a Wyoming County dog attack victim telephoned Attorney Thomas J. Newell.  He had arrived at the defendants’ home to make some repairs to an appliance.  Four Dachsunds came running out and one of them bit him twice on the calf.  The Factoryville PA resident went to a nearby hospital where they administered a tetanus shot.  Attorney Newell advised him to call the PA Dog Warden to investigate whether the dog was up to date with its rabies shot.

Chained Pit Bull Attacks Girl in Washington PA

A June 16th Father’s Day party was ruined when a 7 year-old girl was attacked by a chained pit bull.  The little girl was trying to retrieve a basketball when the pit bull snapped its chain, knocked her  to the ground and bit her chest.   A Good Samaritan jumped in and pulled the vicious pit bull off the victim.  This was the 2nd unprovoked attack by the pit bull.  The owners allegedly will have the dog euthanized.

Cumberland County Dog Attack Victim Calls Attorney Newell

On June 11, 2013, a Cumberland County dog bite victim telephoned Attorney Newell to seek his legal advice.  About 10 days earlier she was visiting a home where they had a mixed breed dog chained to the fence.  As the PA dog bite victim approached the front door, the mixed breed dog broke the chain and attacked her.  She sustained dog bite wounds in the buttock.  Medical staff at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill PA gave her a tetanus shot and antibiotics.

Newell regarding a pit bull and Rottweiler attack that took place in May of 2011.  The gentleman claimed that his neighbor’s pit bull and Rottweiler attacked him in his own backyard.  He shot and killed the Rottweiler while trying to fend off the dog mauling.  The PA dog bite victim expressed his frustration with the lack of prompt legal action by gov’t officials to prevent this from happening again.

Cumberland County Dog Attack Victim Contacts Attorney Newell

On May 13, 2013, a Cumberland County dog attack victim telephoned Attorney Newell to discuss her case.  She and her dog were attacked by an unrestrained pit bull in Enola PA.  The 2 teenagers who were allegedly supervising this vicious pit bull did nothing and watched the 25 year old woman and her dog get mauled by this out-of-control canine.

On May 1, 2013, an Allentown PA dog bite victim contacted Attorney Thomas J. Newell for a second opinion.  She was bitten on 2/22/13 in a church parking lot.  The defendant dog owner had his canine on a retractable leash, but did not have the dog under control.  The Lehigh County dog attack victim received medical care at Lehigh Valley Hospital.  Another attorney declined to accept her case.  Attorney Newell is currently investigating this dog bite claim.

Guilty of PA Dog Law Violations

On April 29, 2013, an Allentown PA dog owner was convicted of PA Dog Law violations by District Justice Karen Devine. The defendant’s Scottie Terrier had bit 5 other people before it attacked a Whitehall PA resident on February 16, 2013. The Lehigh Valley dog attack victim received a facial wound that required 7 stitches to close. Lehigh County Dog Warden, Orlando Aguirre, prosecuted the case which resulted in a conviction for harboring a dangerous dog.
