Pit Bull Lawsuit Filed By PA Dog Attack Attorney

On May 19, 2014, Attorney Newell received a telephone call from a Slatington, PA man. He was temporarily working at a local vineyard when the property owner’s rottweiler attacked him 3 times. In addition to being treated for numerous dog bite wounds, the Lehigh Valley dog attack victim injured his back after the rottweiler jumped on top of him. Mixed Breed Dog Attacks Lehigh Valley Man

On May 12, 2014, Attorney Thomas J. Newell was contacted by a Lehigh Valley man after he was bitten by a mixed breed dog in Wind Gap, PA. The man had agreed to return an item to a family member on the evening of 4/25. When he arrived and opened the front door, the unleashed mixed breed dog attacked him. The Northampton County dog bite victim was bitten on the right arm and left knee. He was treated at a Lehigh Valley medical facility and was given a tetanus shot.

Severe Injuries in Berks County After Dog Attacks Owners

A May 2, 2014 article from wfmz.com details a horrific unprovoked dog attack which took place in Berks County, PA. A couple’s pit bull got loose. The female owner found the dog up the street, put him in the car and drove home. As she attempted to get the pit bull out of her car, it bit her. The male dog owner came out to help and the pit bull then mauled him, ripping off one of his thumbs during the attack.

Berks County Attack Victim Begins Treatments For Facial Scar

On 4/23/14, a Berks County dog bite victim began the first of 4 to 6 laser surgery treatment procedures on her face. In April of last year she was mauled by a family member’s adult male mastiff. On 3/6/14, a Bethlehem PA pit bull owner plead guilty to charges regarding terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. He twice ordered his pit bull to attack a Bethlehem resident on 11/17/13. The pit bull owner will serve 8 to 16 months in the Northampton County Prison in Easton, PA. The Lehigh Valley pit bull attack victim sustained dog bite wounds to the right leg.

Reading PA Dog Bite Victim Hires Attorney Newell

On 2/7/14, Attorney Thomas J. Newell was retained by a Reading PA dog attack victim to represent her after she was mauled by a 7 year-old male Mastiff. 2 Harrisburg Pit Bulls Put Down After Attack

On October 31, 2013, two pit bulls were euthanized after they killed a Chihuahua and were aggressive to a passerby.  According to wgal.com, Harrisburg Police arrived at the 300 block of Hamilton Street and found the pit bulls to be so aggressive that an officer shot and wounded one of the pit bulls.  The owner of the pit bulls handed them over to a Harrisburg Animal Control Officer and they were later euthanized.

Wayne County PA Pit Bull Attack

On October 21, 2013, Attorney Newell received a telephone call from a woman in Wayne County PA whose mixed breed dog was mauled by pit bulls owned by a neighbor.  The woman’s dog had gotten loose and her husband had gone over to the neighbor’s home to retrieve their family pet.  Unfortunately, there was an altercation between the dogs which resulted in serious injuries to the mixed breed dog.  Attorney Newell reviewed with her the applicable PA Dog Law statute.

Young Girl Mauled by Pit Bull in Lancaster County

An October 8, 2013 article on lancasteronline.com described a recent Lancaster County dog attack that resulted in serious injuries to a 5 year-old girl.  A 27 year-old relative of the little girl adopted a pit bull from an owner that specifically told the defendant not to let any children around the dog.  Despite that specific warning, the new owner of the pit bull dropped it off at her home where there were 4 children.  The victim had around 40 puncture wounds that required surgery and 80 stitches to close.

Bucks County Pit Bull Attack Settlement Hearing Date Set

On October 3, 2013, Attorney Newell received an Order from the Orphans’ Court Division of the Court of Common Pleas of Bucks County setting forth an Oct. 21st hearing date for a Minor’s Compromise Petition.  A 13 year old boy had been attacked by his friend’s pit bull in June of 2012.  Attorney Newell negotiated a $53,000.00 settlement with the defendant’s insurance company and now awaits formal court approval.

Wilkes-Barre Pit Bull Attack Victim Calls Attorney Newell

On Sept. 2, 2013, a Wilkes-Barre resident spoke with Attorney Newell after being mauled by a mixed breed pit bull and mixed breed coon hound.  She was dropping off clothes that she had volunteered to launder at a Dallas PA home when the 2 vicious dogs pursued and then bit her.  She sustained significant dog bite wounds to her calves.  A tetanus shot was administered and she continues to take medication to prevent infection.

Rottweiler Attack in Norristown

On Aug. 6, 2013, a rottweiler jumped up over a fence in Norristown PA and snatched a shih tzu right out of the arms of its owner as she was walking on the sidewalk adjacent to the home of the rottweiler’s owner.  The small dog was mauled by the vicious rottweiler and required numerous surgeries.  The vet bill is approaching $10,000.00.  Hopefully, Norristown Police will file multiple PA Dog Law charges.

Pit Bull Attacks for the 3rd Time in Washington County PA

On Aug. 2,  2013, a pit bull in Washington County attacked and severely injured a daschund in Canonsburg PA.  According to Pittsburgh.cbslocal.com, this was the 3rd documented unprovoked attack by this vicious pit bull.  Other media reports indicate that the daschund sustained a lacerated liver and other internal injuries.  The Allegheny County Dog Warden is investigating this attack because of a potential conflict of interest regarding the Washington County Dog Warden.

Philly Postal Worker Attacked By Mixed Breed Dog

On July 30, 2013, a Philadelphia based USPS postal mail carrier was delivering mail when a bulldog/mixed breed dog ran out of its house and began an unprovoked attack on the innocent victim.  She tried to defend herself, but even the dog’s owner couldn’t immediately stop the attack – as the dog even went after him!

On July 11, 2013, a York County pit bull mauling victim telephoned Attorney Thomas J. Newell.  The gentleman had been helping his girlfriend retrieve her belongings from a home in Dallastown.  The tenant’s pit bull went after the woman and the man tried to pull her away to safety.  The pit bull viciously attacked the man, biting him all over both legs.  Physicians at York Hospital needed about 33 stitches to close the dog bite wounds.

On June 10, 2013, the mother of a Luzerne County pit bull attack victim contacted Attorney Thomas J. Newell.  Her husband and son had been making a delivery to a home in the Bear Creek Lake development.  The homeowners lost control of their pit bull and it attacked her son.  The Luzerne County dog attack victim was bitten on the left biceps and was scratched by the pit bull on the left side of his face.  He received medical care at Westfield Hospital in Allentown PA.

On May 21, 2013, a mailman was bitten by a pit bull in Allegheny County.  According to wtae.com, the U.S. Postal Office employee was delivering mail on Fleming Avenue in Pittsburgh when a homeowner opened a gate.  The pit bull charged thru the opening and attacked the letter carrier.  He was taken to a local hospital for additional care for the dog bite wounds.

On May 15, 2013, a woman was attacked by her own pit bull on Ogden Street in West Philadelphia.  As described on NBCPhiladelphia.com, the pit bull had just given birth to several puppies.  As the pit bull owner was moving the puppies inside the home, the pit bull attacked her causing severe wounds to her arms and chest.  Philadelphia Police fired 8 shots before finally subduing the vicious pit bull.

Pit Bulls Kill Small Dog in Philadelphia

On May 7, 2013, a Montgomery County PA woman was visiting her friend in Philadelphia with her small dog.  Two pit bulls escaped from a parked car and attacked the helpless dog.  The badly mauled dog was taken to a nearby vet’s office where it died from its injuries.  The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating this vicious and unprovoked attack.

Bucks County Judge Approves Rottweiler Attack Settlement

On April 30, 2013, a $38,500.00 legal settlement was approved by Judge C. Theodore Fritsch, Jr. of the Bucks County Orphans’ Court. A 10 year-old girl witnessed her 4 year-old brother being attacked by their uncle’s rottweiler. The victims had been attending a family party in Levittown PA when the unprovoked dog attack took place. Adams County Pit Bull Attack Victim’s Case Proceeds to Litigation

On 4/10/13 Thomas J. On March 10, 2013, a young girl in Perkiomen Township, Montgomery County PA was attacked by a roaming rottweiler.  According to perkiomenvalley.patch.com, the girl was bitten in the Maple Hill Community off Route 29.  The PA dog bite victim received medical care for dog bite wounds to her thigh.  The unrestrained rottweiler was allegedly shot after the attack.

On Feb. 28, 2013, the Salisbury Township Police Department informed Attorney Thomas J. Newell that they agreed with his legal analysis and decided to file PA Dog Law charges against Montreal Howard.  The defendant had originally only been charged with violating a local ordinance by permitting his pit bulls to run loose in Salisbury Township on 2/4/13.  The new PA Dog Law charges of failure to confine and harboring a dangerous dog carry with them the possibility of restitution for the pit bull attack victims.

Pit Bull Mauling in Lehigh County

A February 4, 2013 unprovoked pit bull attack in the Lehigh Valley resulted in injure is to 2 innocent Lehigh County residents and a small dog.  Salisbury Township Police reported that an unrestrained pit bull first attacked a woman in her front yard.  The vicious pit bull then mauled an elderly man as he was walking his small dog.  The police expect to charge the negligent pit bull owner with multiple PA Dog Law violations.

Pit Bull Owner Pleads Guilty

On Jan. 18, 2013, Thomas J. Newell, Esq. was informed by an Ashland PA police officer that a Schuylkill County pit bull owner had pled guilty to a failure to confine citation. The PA Dog Law violation took place on 11/24/12 when the defendant’s 2 pit bulls escaped from his residence and pursued a 63 year old woman and her American Cocker Spaniel. She sustained multiple injuries, including a deviated septum.

Pit Bull Attacks Jack Russell Terrier in Allegheny County

On Dec. 5, 2012, a white pit bull ran out thru a gate at a home in Forest Hills and attacked a Jack Russell Terrier. The little dog was bitten numerous times around the neck and hind-end area. The pit bull owner told police that she had taken out the garbage earlier in the day and had forgotten to lock the gate when she returned to her home. Hopefully, the negligent pit bull owner will be charged with PA Dog Law violations, including failure to confine.

On Dec. 5, 2012, a Hanover PA woman was injured while trying to save her dog from being attacked by two pit bulls.  As she was walking down the street delivering newspapers, the 2 pit bulls came out a front door and began to attack her dog.  When she tried to save her canine, she was bitten on the left hand.  Hanover Borough Police are investigating and PA Dog Law charges are expected to be filed.

Schuylkill County Pit Bull Attack Injures Elderly Woman

On Nov. 24, 2012, an elderly woman was walking her little dog on a sidewalk in Ashland PA.  Her American Cocker Spaniel was on a leash as they were adjacent to 9th Street.  Suddenly, 2 pit bulls jumped over a neighbor’s fence and tried to attack her dog.  As the Schuylkill County resident tried to protect her cocker spaniel, she fell to the ground and became unconscious.  An ambulance crew took her to Schuylkill Medical Center for treatment.

Monroe County Rottweiler Owner Files Appeal

On Nov. 15, 2012, Attorney Thomas J. Newell obtained information that a negligent Monroe County rottweiler owner had filed an appeal from her convictions of 3 PA Dog Law violations by a local District Justice.  A Monroe County Court of Common Pleas Judge will hold a non-jury trial in 2013 regarding charges of failing to confine, harboring a dangerous dog and expired licensing.

Pit Bull Attacks Mail Carrier in Bethlehem PA

On Oct. 11, 2012, a pit bull attacked a female postal worker in Bethlehem PA.  According to The Morning Call, the 70 pound pit bull escaped from a nearby yard and knocked the woman down to the ground.  Pepper spray did not stop the dog attack.  The PA pit bull attack victim suffered bites on her arms, chest, leg and face.  PA Dog Law charges are expected.

A July 26, 2012 article on goerie.com describes a huge increase in pit bull attacks in Erie PA.  Erie Animal Enforcement Officer Rob Culbertson has investigated more dog attacks in 2012 than in all of 2011.  Mr. Culbertson stated that the vast majority of Erie dog bite cases involve pit bulls – with many of them strays or running loose in Erie.
