State Farm Paid $4.5 Million in 2012 for PA Dog Bite Claims

On May 15, 2013, State Farm Insurance Company issued its annual dog bite claim report. In 2012, State Farm paid $4,500,000.00 to settle 165 PA dog bite claims – an average payout of $27,272.73. Only California, Illinois and Ohio had a higher payout total. For the entire country, State Farm resolved 3,670 dog bite claims with payments totaling $108,000,000.00.

POSTAL WORKERMeanwhile, a report issued by the U.S. Postal Service identified Philadelphia as having the 5th most dog attacks on postal workers in any city in the United States. The 34 Philadelphia dog attacks were half the number of postal workers attacked in Los Angeles. Nearly 5,900 postal workers were bitten throughout America in 2012.

On Saturday May 11, 2013, Attorney Newell travelled to Northumberland County PA and met with a dog bite victim who had been attacked by a neighbor’s German Shepherd.  Attorney Newell surveyed the scene of the dog attack and after reviewing all the facts, agreed to accept the case.

Northumberland County Dog Attack Case Referred to Attorney Newell

On May 8, 2013, a local lawyer referred a Northumberland County dog bite case to Attorney Thomas J. Newell. The Elysburg PA resident had been bitten by a neighbor’s German Shepherd. The vicious dog also attacked her Cairn Terrier and West Highland White Terrier. The innocent victim was driven from her home to Geisinger Medical Center.

The PA dog attack victim then treated with an orthopaedic specialist for approximately one month.  Scar tissue has developed on her left hand where the dog bite wounds were inflicted.
