Posted on: April 8th, 2014  padog

On April 7, 2014, Attorney Thomas J. Newell provided a free home consultation to a Bucks County woman who was attacked by a neighbor’s unrestrained pit bull. The pit bull first attacked her Boston Terrier which was being walked on a leash pursuant to the PA Dog Law.

BOSTON TERRIER - 2

When the Bucks County dog attack victim tried to rescue her terrier, the pit bull bit her hands. The pit bull owner stood nearby and did nothing to stop the attack. Fortunately, another neighbor came running to her aid and was able to help the victim force the pit bull to stop biting the terrier’s neck.

Mixed Breed Dog Attack Upon Visiting Nurse in Harrisburg PA

Posted on: April 5th, 2014  padog

On March 31, 2014, a Dauphin County visiting nurse appeared at the scheduled time to treat a patient at her home near Harrisburg, PA. Unfortunately, the negligent dog owner didn’t confine her vicious mixed breed dog. Before the nurse could take off her jacket, she was attacked 3x by the mixed breed dog.

MIXED BREED

Fortunately for the Dauphin County dog attack victim, the dog wasn’t able to bite through all the layers of her clothes. The dog left bruises on her left arm and she was evaluated at Holy Spirit Hospital. The dog owner told the victim after the attack, “He had never bitten anyone inside the home before.”

One Pit Bull Owner’s Definition of “Personal Accountability”

Posted on: March 3rd, 2014  padog

A Feb. 25, 2014 article from carolinalive.com described a horrific ordeal that took place on 2/3/14. A North Carolina Dept. of Health & Environmental Control employee went to the Dillon County home of Mitchell Driggers to investigate a past dog attack. When the investigator arrived, he was severely mauled and still remains in serious condition at a local hospital more than 3 weeks after this unprovoked dog bite attack!

PIT BULLS #10

There are 2 “versions” of the facts.  You be the judge as to which is more trustworthy. The pit bull mauling victim was able to call 911 for help and told the operator that 2 pit bulls were attacking him. Police officers who arrived at the defendant’s home reported that 2 pit bulls were attacking. They shot and killed both pit bulls in order to stop the attack.

The pit bulls owner’s version is quite different. He told WPDE News Channel 15 that he only owned 1 of those pit bulls and … surprise, surprise … he insisted that it had no involvement with the attack upon the victim. As to the “real” attacking pit bull, he claimed that he didn’t own it, but that it “was just always around his property.” IMO, that’s as honest on the truth meter as “you will be able to keep your own health insurance plan.”

Nominee For Dumbest Dog Owner of 2014

Posted on: February 25th, 2014  padog

What a Schuylkill County PA man did with his adult male Chinese Shar Pei on 2/4/14 may qualify for the dumbest decision made by a dog owner in 2014. His wife wanted to go grocery shopping. What should he do with the Shar Pei?

CHINESE SHAR PEI #2

  1. Leave it at home with ample food and water;
  2. Bring it along and sit with the Shar Pei in the SUV while his wife was grocery shopping;
  3. Put the dog on a leash and take the Shar Pei for a walk; or,
  4. Park in a busy and full parking lot, tie the Shar Pei to the bumper of your SUV while you sit inside the vehicle?

An 84 year-old woman parked her car in that same lot and began walking past the parked cars on her way into the grocery store. Suddenly and without any warning, the adult male Shar Pei jumped up, knocked her to the ground and bit her. The Luzerne County dog bite victim suffered multiple bite wounds to her left arm which were treated at the Geisinger Health Clinic.

By tying the dog to the bumper of the vehicle, the dog owner now artificially created a situation where the Shar Pei would naturally protect its new found “turf” and attack anyone who came too close to the SUV. To do so in a crowded parking lot with many pedestrians is unfathomable. The PA Dog Law can’t prevent a dog owner’s complete lack of common sense.

dog* Panting or rapid breathing
* Pacing or excessive movement
* Charging forward, batting or snapping
* Dilated, large pupils
Hunched-up body posture
